15:00-16:00Theme Week opening and welcome reception. Brief opening remarks by Katri Huitu. Sparkling wine is served.
15:00-17:00An Interactive Exhibition: join us for a hands-on journey through detector physics, accelerator technology, artificial intelligence, and 30 years of HIP research. Featured attractions include a linear accelerator game, gesture-controlled Cosmic Simulator, detector demonstrations, and an AI-generated HIP history quiz based on archival reports and publications.
15:00 –Posters will be available for viewing in the lobby all week until Friday (Update: please keep the posters available until Wednesday 9.9. morning).

10:00-14:00Escape room with a high energy physics theme. By solving puzzles build a CMS detector and discover the Higgs boson. One session takes about half an hour, booking in the lobby outside Physicum A315. Booking becomes available on Monday 31.8.

First come first served basis, one round takes about 30 min and can have up to eight participants.

“Science fiction writers have always drawn inspiration from cosmological concepts, and it’s understandable to see why: phenomena like black holes and warp drives can certainly open up exciting possibilities. But how accurately is cosmology portrayed in Sci-Fi? Here I will talk about what Sci-Fi gets right and wrong about cosmology, and why this matters to scientists.”

Movie “Particle Fever” (2013)

The American documentary film covers period of 2008-2012, presenting the beginning of operation of the LHC collider at CERN to the discovery of the Higgs boson. It follows the work of the large team of experimental physicists, as wells as theoretical physicists who try to provide a conceptual framework explaining the results.

In 2016, it was one of the inaugural winners of the Stephen Hawking Medal for Science Communication.
